Kehilat Sukkat Shalom is excited to announce that it has been selected by Jewish Columbus as one of the communities to join 58 others that are participating in the Harold Grinspoon Foundation’s (HGF) LIFE & LEGACY ® program.
LIFE & LEGACY is a four-year partnership program of the Harold Grinspoon Foundation that assists communities across North America, through partnerships with Jewish Federations and Foundations to promote after-lifetime giving to build endowments that will sustain valued organizations and vibrant Jewish communities for the next generation and beyond.
Through training, support, and monetary incentives, LIFE & LEGACY motivates Jewish organizations to secure legacy gifts, steward donors, and integrate legacy giving into the philanthropic culture of the Jewish community.
Our country is in the midst of a $59 trillion inter-generational transfer of wealth. The goal of LIFE & LEGACY is to provide Jewish communities with the tools to capitalize on this incredible moment in time for philanthropy. Since 2012, donors via LIFE & LEGACY have committed $960 million in new planned gifts to Jewish organizations, day schools, and synagogues across North America. A planned gift can come in many forms, including but not limited to an IRA or retirement plan designation, life insurance policies, and a bequest to an organization(s).
Over the course of the four years of the program, a cohort of local Jewish agencies and synagogues will receive coaching from and participate in community trainings with a LIFE & LEGACY Community Consultant. This person will provide tailored support to each organization on developing and implementing a planned giving initiative that fits the “personality” of each organization. JewishColumbus is able to launch LIFE & LEGACY through a generous $60,000 grant from the Columbus Jewish Foundation Legacy Board, and will also receive annual financial support from HGF.
Joel Marcovitch, CEO of JewishColumbus was excited about the important role that LIFE & LEGACY will play in sustaining the community:
“Our acceptance into LIFE & LEGACY is a huge win for future generations of Columbus Jews. Our ability to respond to the future needs of the community depends on our ability to plan today. We want to celebrate those who are our partners in planning to secure the future. Each member of our community who becomes part of this program has become a beacon that will light our future.”
