Meet Aviva Marchione, Our 5784 High Holiday Spiritual Leader

For the third year, Kehilat Sukkat Shalom is proud to welcome a Rabbinic Intern from the Reconstructionist Rabbinical College (RRC) to join us as a Spiritual Leader for the High Holy Days. Our Rosh haShanah and Yom Kippur prayer services and social gatherings are enhanced by the presence of guest leaders who bring a new voice and unique perspective on “doing Jewish.” This summer, our lay leaders are working with Aviva Marchione to bring together plans for the Days of Awe. We hope you’ll be present to receive the fruits of their labors!

Aviva is a 5th year student at RRC. Passionate about the cultural significance of Torah and the meaning that can be made from it, Aviva is continuously inspired by our tradition’s rich texts and strives to make Torah more accessible for anyone who wishes to learn. Growing up in Michigan, Aviva found her way to Philadelphia in the summer of 2015 where she began working at the University of Pennsylvania Hillel assisting undergraduate students in understanding themselves while being their ‘Jewish person’ on campus. During her time as a student at the Reconstructionist Rabbinical College, Aviva has held internships with Villanova University Hillel, Temple B’nai Abraham in Bordentown NJ, RRC’s Admissions and Recruitment team, Brandeis University Hillel and Camp Havaya as their Summer Program Director in 2019. Over the past few years she has also had the privilege and honor of officiating various lifecycle events and teaching Torah in a variety of settings. Aviva holds a certificate in Experiential Jewish Education with M2 and is an alum of the Hartman Rabbinic Fellowship and JOIN for Justice Summer Cohort. Aviva resides in West Philadelphia with her partner Ben and their 3 cats and is often found in the kitchen baking something sweet to share.
